Ontario’s York Region is one of the most culturally diverse regions of the country, home to over 15 different languages and cultures.
The previous identity used stock photos of fresh faced, happy children. This did not reflect the environment that the organization found itself in. Policing communication images for the proper mix of cultures was becoming unwieldy and time consuming.
We developed a multilingual design system which made use of the boundless creativity of the children served by the organization. Using artwork created by children in foster care, the identity is inherently reflective of childcare’s hopes and dreams, while never suffering from being “too representative” that it alienates other cultures.
